It was a late Spring day. It had been a few months earlier when I did something I never thought I would do: I applied for a position in a leadership council. I didn't think I qualified for it, but for some insane reason, I talked myself into going for it. Not long after that, I received the call for an interview, which was brief, and I was certain when I walked out of it that nothing was going to happen. To my surprise, I received a call telling me that I was selected. It was a small role, only to help with certain things in the facilities, but it was still a total surprise. There I was, a few weeks after, travelling with the others I would be working with, to a remote place in the nearby rural towns. Apparently, it was a state park, but it seemed so empty and quiet. The lodgings we used were a little run down, and with toilet issues. What made this event so memorable never had to do with my plunger power, but with another moment that stuck out in everyone's minds for that whole time we worked together
.
The evening grew closer, but it was Friday, so there was no rush. The leader over me called us together to have a get-to-know-you meeting, where we played games. I'm often hesitant playing games. That's not always my favorite thing to do, but I usually play along anyway. The game ended up being one that was easy going and simple enough that it didn't bother me, but somewhere in that meeting, the leader slipped in the news that for the meeting with the others, we were asked to do a skit and we were supposed to related it to our new duties. I had done skits before, but it was often in front of friends or family. I didn't know anyone there, and I wasn't so sure about the skit idea and how it would pan out. We had a discussion on what it should be, and someone suggested that we act as if we were in an insane asylum showing how our duties had driven us crazy. I listened as they each discussed what each of them would do, and when they came to me, well, let's just say their ideas gave me a little bit of a challenge. I'm quiet, exceedingly quiet, and I'm sure they all knew it by then, but someone got the bright idea that along with me crawling all over the place and using the phone to find one of my misplaced items (a ping pong ball), I was going to find someone in the audience and shout at them, inquiring them of the location of said ball. I've done similar things before, but the thought of it still made me feel shy. I agreed to do it anyway though.
The time of reckoning approached, and the closer I got, the more nervous I grew. I was literally shaking as we waited our turn outside. The time came. We entered. As I immediately spotted the table where I was supposed to be, I went trembling over, but playing my part as I fumbled around the area, mumbling about the ball, mumbling something similar into the phone, and then crawling on the ground, under the table, and everywhere in the area. The moment came and I went to the audience. My hands clasped tightly onto the shoulders of one of the boys in the audience, and as I shook him a little, a surprising scream burst out of my mouth, "Where is my ping pong ball?!" His face turned white, the white in his eyes visible and his mouth open as if he wanted to scream. It was a perfect poster boy look for an upcoming horror movie! The skit was soon over, but the memory was not. Those who saw it happen remembered it for weeks, and the adviser told me not long after it that I should be on the stage. Sure.

This is only one of several similar examples I could give, but it isn't necessary to tell the others for examples. I still see that guy's face today, even though this is not a recent story, and even now as I was writing it, I'm still laughing. The second note says it all:
You have taught me
many a lesson on how a quite [quiet]
person can be just as fun and loud as me!!!
So to answer my question, no introverts are not boring. You just might have to be more patient with us, but in time you'll find us as interesting and fun as anyone else you've known.
