I was warned that this holiday would be difficult after losing my mom the day before Thanksgiving, and it has been a different one. Instead of going out or being involved activities, I spent most of my time not running around finding seasonal entertainment or shopping, but staying home with the family, and frankly that was fine with me. Admittedly, part of that was because I was sick, but doing all that other stuff wasn't a big deal this time around. We put up my mom's Christmas tree, and I delivered her one final last gift to my dad--that was a little emotional for me. After I explained to him what it was, I had to go to the other room to dry off my face for a few minutes. Emotionally, it's been a roller-coaster ride, but it was to be expected. This week was especially crazy with that, but it has to happen, and better now than never. I'm still processing things, but fortunately, I've got a lot of people looking out for me, which was apparent when I went to deliver the Christmas treats and several of the neighbors took me in to talk to me before sending me out to my next house. I'm certain it took me twice the time for that reason.
I'm officially working for my neighbor, and that will be nice, particularly since there are a few things in my plans with which it could help. Since I no longer have my time so strictly consumed, I'm more free to travel. I have a family member who never really got to see Disneyland. She went there once with friends, but they didn't stay long enough to give her the full experience, so we're planning on going so that I can show her around. I haven't talked to her yet, but I've also wanted to take some time in San Diego as well, and visit relatives. It might be more crucial now to make that effort, because both of our families lost someone this year, and it would be great to keep the connection going. It's interesting the effect of loss makes in life. Sometimes, it breaks up families, and sometimes, it brings them together. I'm grateful to have family from both sides who still wish to stay connected.
Well, here's to a new year, and to life's next adventure!
