It's OK to be Normal

Everyone dreams at some point in their life about being that someone, that person everyone in the world looks at and drools over.  I think it is one of the most common ailments humankind suffers.  I too have that problem, but just to sit back and take a look at things I'm again reminded that there is nothing wrong with just being that everyday person.

So what is it to drive us to want this?  I can completely understand it if competition is a natural drive, but what about those like me who absolutely detest and would do anything to avoid competition?  Why do we dream these things?  My theory: it comes from an inner need that all humans desire, that is, to be loved and accepted.

Now the question becomes, why is it that we think that if we become famous and headliners, we will have these?  They make it look that way.  That's why.  As members of the human race, these people have just as much follies and imperfections as we do, whether we see it or not and I'd wager a good number of them struggle with finding love and acceptance as well.

So if we can't find it there, where can we?  Let me suggest one thing: look in the little details, the most seemingly insignificant parts of life.  I've mentioned a few in my most recent posts: the teacher who recognized my talent; enjoying the blossoms blowing in the wind around me; and reaching an accomplishment at work.  It's places like these that we can find them.  As human beings, we tend to look upward into the sky beyond our reach.  Look closer to the earth.  Don't be afraid to search the dirt and mud if you have to.  There are plentiful supplies of buds and blossoms there, each destined to become the fruits and fragrant flowers of our lives.

So I've come to the conclusion whether the whole world knows your name or whether the only a few people know you exist, you are important.  That one bloom in a flower field that makes it complete.  You do not have to be famous.  It's ok that you are just you.
