Seeing the Good

The restrictions to stay home has brought out so many interesting things in people.  I've seen such a wide range of reactions from pure apathy to over reacting fear.  Some people are getting anxiety by not being able to go out.  Don't forget the infamous battles over the tp stock and water bottles at the stores (still trying to understand that one).  With it all, once in a while something wonderful crops up that reminds us all that good humanity is indeed still alive.
I live in a community that predominantly belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (many know them as Mormons, but that's not their correct name).  This last weekend they held a conference and was asked one more time (since this occurred one week ago already) to fast on Good Friday for the pandemic.  People of other faiths were invited to participate also.  There are a lot of ideas and opinions of this religion out there that often make people feel hesitant to have anything to do with it or its people, but there seems to be some rising support in this particular purpose.

I was invited to join a group on Facebook for this invitation.  I was hesitant at first, because frankly I don't want a long list of groups to try to keep up with.  I gave into this one though, and I've already been impressed at what I'm seeing there.  There are people from all parts of the world and with all religions (even those who don't believe in God) coming together and supporting each other in this cause.  I'm seeing people with political differences and different lifestyles coming together in supporting this difference.  No one wanting to participate is being turned away.  There are almost 300,000 members in the group already and it was created just a few days ago.

Someone took the time to write down
all of the countries/locations of individuals
in the group who declared the
willingness to participate.  More may have
been added since then.
I don't know how often I've talked about people or humanity not living up to its potential as I see it, but I have to admit witnessing the responses on this group has often come a good deal closer to that ideal, and I'm loving it.  I wish the world could see this.  It's simply amazing what I'm seeing going on here.  As someone in the group stated, miracles are already happening as we witness all people from so many different backgrounds combining together in unity for a single purpose.

I wish this could happen more often.
