Mission Positive

There are so many voices going on out there coming from all angles, particularly on social media.  I can't be the only one out there who gets weighed down by all the negative voices and opinions.  Frankly, it shows things that are furthest from what I see people capable of, and it's exceedingly difficult to watch people demeaning themselves in such high numbers.  I know some people believe that anger is a way to get things done, but I'm here watching all that's going on, and I'm not really seeing that happening.  All I'm seeing is that the anger of one side is resulting in more anger from other sides.  There's no solution in that.

There's plenty of this going on in social media.  You have people bickering back and forth about one subject or another, even to the point of trolling and bullying.  Add on to that and you get the little junk items like some of those junk personality games you press on to have them tell you who you are and trying to put words into your mouth with terrible and sometimes vulgar quotes.  There are so many other things I could list, so much of it that I personally know people who will not visit their social media or have discontinued using it for that same reason.  This drove me to decide early on that I needed to post things that might be a nice break from all of that.  When I post, I have certain rules I have that I follow in order to post that item.

  • Kindness:  Statements demeaning others and are derogatory that affect my family and friends also apply to any other individuals out there who might be looking at my things.  As I have stated in the past, we all are in a sense family anyway.
  • Respect:  There are many people out there with different experiences in life and thus will have different opinions.  They are allowed to have those opinions as much as I am allowed to have mine.  No one deserves to be mistreated, because of a difference of opinion.  Not being keen to conflict, I usually won't join a discussion if it looks like a waste of words, because it's going nowhere on either side or all sides.
  • Uplifting:  This is an important one.  There's so much negativity out there outweighing the positives, so I'm keen to point out the positives.  Some people out there may need that light for strength when they are overwhelmed by the other things.  I get overwhelmed also, so in a way these things are just as much for me as they are for anyone else.
  • Clean Humor:  This is more of a personal preference.  I don't always find joking about body parts and functions funny, and I don't think vulgarity is necessary to make something funny, which brings me to the next item.
  • No vulgarity:  Vulgar words/swear words always sounded harsh and ugly to me.  I don't look down on people who use them, because I know better than that, but I don't like using them myself.  If I don't like the word choice on the item I want to share, it's not being shared, unless there's a point I want to emphasize.  In that case, I give an explanation of why I'm posting it.
There may be other things I look for in what to post, but these are key ingredients.  I suppose since I'm human like everyone else, a moment or two might slip in when I forget those rules, but I hope not frequently.  I want people to know there is still something good to look forward to in life, and that there are still beautiful things out there in opposition to all the bleakness we are seeing in the media and social media.  Love still exists.  Hope still exists.  I'm determined to help people see it.  Mission Positive has been and still is underway.  Let's look to something better.
