The Adventure Continues

I'm probably living the holidays nightmare right now. I've lost a close aunt, a mother, and a dear cousin within a month and a half. Not only that, but someone decided to share the "joy" and gave multiple family members, including me, sickness that we've been battling for a week now, and I'm pretty sure its covid, because several family members who got sick at the same time took the test and came out positive. Now my poor little brother is sick, and it's never fun when he gets ill. Needless to say, half of our holiday has been spent attending or planning funerals or fighting for our own health. Interesting by-the-side fact: apparently it's easier to get sick while going through grief, because it weakens the immune system, so we're sharing the joy all the way around. We're on the tail end of it now, but my brother is still in the miserable state, and we're hoping he gets through it. He's more susceptible than the rest of us to get complications, because he's not mobile and often can't change positions on his own a lot. At this moment, I'm listening to him having some labored breathing, but he doesn't have a fever, so that's good. We're still concerned about his lungs, though. Poor guy doesn't have these things easy. He can't tell us what he's experiencing, so we have to be extra attentive to how his behavior, what he sounds like, and so on.

It seems to be the worst thing to have almost your whole holiday spent dealing with loss and health issues. We're missing on so many activities right now. I had to skip out on choir at church for Christmas due to these silly things, which is a little sad. I always look forward to doing it. We're hoping to feel better soon enough to do something fun, but when I think about it not all Christmas celebrations have to be busy with constant activities. Some of the most memorable moments are the simplest, and even though this year isn't full of the usual fun activities, the family is still together supporting and celebrating together. That's what's important.
