It's so strange that I'm coming up on two months since my loss. I'm still in limbo stage, but I've had a little job assigned to me for a few weeks, and this summer is getting really busy! Two family weddings are on the summer schedule, one nearby, and the other in Idaho. It's nearly booked up the whole summer! It would seem like all this distraction would take me away from things, but I'm still finding myself having moments--completely normal.
I've been trying to retrain myself into better sleeping habits, and it looks like I've got waking up in the morning going for me. It's been years since I've had motivation to get up in the morning. That's a bad habit developed from years of going to work with a condition of insomnia. Even when I was home taking care of family that didn't improve much, so that's become my first goal post-caregiving. Early morning is the best time of day temperature-wise to do activity outside since it tends to be the coolest at about 4 in the morning. I've been using those mornings on most days (some days are still a little hard) to go out on a morning walk. It's also nice, because few other people get up that early, so it's really quiet. That is improving. Going to sleep early enough at night is still a bit of a struggle, but I think lately it's been improving. I don't know if I've noticed many benefits, but it seems I'm having more days being in a better mood. Little steps, right?
It's now the holiday month. I say month, because in our community, it's not just the July 4th holiday. We also have Pioneer Day on July 24, which is celebrated just as much, and for some people possibly more than July 4. Add in a family wedding for the month, and now you know why it's going to be a busy time for a while. July 4 was mostly enjoyed at home, though there was a night escapade trying to find a place to stop and watch the fireworks. I live close to a mountain, and on the boundary of the no fireworks zone (restrictions due to fire danger), so we don't do our own, but it's really fun if you find an open area where you can see the community. Fireworks are all over! This year, we decided to try our luck to drive to Provo where they do the Freedom Festival (and Stadium of Fire). Unfortunately, there were lots of road closures due to all the activities (and safety precautions), so we were going here, there, and everywhere, until we found an area to stop. That was definitely an adventure!
That fun is marked completed on the calendar, and now we get to do wedding activities. The first of the weddings is in less than two weeks. We do have a party for the bride that we call a "shower," which is basically a party for the women to give her gifts (mostly practical) to help her start her new life. I think in many other parts of the country, they have bachelorette parties, but that's not really a thing here, at least I've never been to one. I daresay some may do it, but not within my circles.
Time moves on, and so must we. I'll see what interesting thing happens to me next!
Life is definitely an adventure.
