This may be another brief post, but I thought to make a comment concerning my view of April Fools Day (observed on April 1). Directly speaking, I don't like this holiday. Despite the fun memory of school when a pair of identical twins switched classes on their teachers, I'm not really into playing the particular type of tricks people come up with for this celebration. That seems a little hypocritical coming from me, because I an mischievous and can tease and joke around with the people closest to me; however, there is a level of teasing and tricking that I stop at, because beyond that point it turns mean and/or rude toward the other person. Some people go beyond that point and I no longer find it fun or funny.
It seems to be a set unspoken rule for me that as long as the trick is something the other person can understand is a joke or funny then it's fine to pull it on them, but if it goes beyond that point and it's too serious for the other person, I need to stop. For this reason, and also to avoid awkward situations, showing my mischievous side is probably one of the last things I'll show a person, so if I start getting goofy around you, congratulations, you've passed level 1299.
That being said, April is has to be one of my most favorite months in the year. It's in April where it's certain to see flowers coming out and trees full of blossoms. In a good year, it produces some awesome rains (I love rain). The weather is warm, but not too hot and probably is the month where I'd most likely experience my preferred temperatures, which is 40-45 degrees (Fahrenheit) as the low--I love a slight chill, and 65-70 degrees (Fahrenheit) as a high--warm, but not hot.
I mentioned that I pruned roses recently and I finished the last bushes this morning. I inspected the others. There is a lot of anxiety of those roses, because they were transplanted last fall and looking at them earlier this year there was some concern whether they survived the stress of the transplant. When I pruned them last week, it appeared there might still be some green in some of them, so I'm anticipating the results after my pruning. I haven't given up on them yet. Hope's my thing after all.
Our apricot blossoms have opened up and it looks promising this year. Last year, we had a late freeze that killed several of them, but there's no freeze in the forecast this year for the time being. They make amazing jelly and I discovered some great recipes last year that worked out well also. It would be fun to do some more, though on the downside cleaning up the windfalls is a yucky mess. That's not quite so fun. Apricots normally ripen here at the end of July.
Bring it on April (without the jokes, please).
